Takayuki Maekawa was born in Tokyo in 1969. After working as an engineer at a computer-related company, he began self-studying photography at the age of 26. In 1997, he then began working as an assistant to Japanese photographer Kojo Tanaka and subsequently established himself as a freelance animal photographer in 2000. Since that time, specializing in photographing wild animals in their natural habitats, Takayuki has expanded his field of work to include not only Japan, but also North America, Africa, Asia, and more recently, Central America and Oceania. His work has been published in numerous media outlets, including magazines, photo books, and at photo exhibitions.
