Terminator: Dark Fate VFX Brought to Life with EIZO ColorEdge HDR Editing and Reference Monitors
Hakusan, Japan, October 31, 2019 – EIZO Corporation (TSE: 6737) today announced that its ColorEdge professional HDR monitors were used in the making of Terminator: Dark Fate, which hits theaters in November 2019.
The film’s producer, Skydance Media, also produced the VFX for the film, relying on EIZO’s ColorEdge products to ensure consistency across their creation pipeline and that the filmmakers’ vision is what the audience would experience in theaters. Skydance used ColorEdge CG319X and CG279X for editing work and the ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 HDR reference monitor for checking the final image and color grading.
Skydance and its partners worked on thousands of visual effects shots to create everything from stunt work, CG characters, and full CG environments for the epic climax of the movie. Jake Maymudes, VFX Supervisor comments, “In order to maintain accuracy between workstations and artists, we’ve relied heavily on EIZO products. The CG279X is really the work horse for us. It’s really the perfect monitor for our visual effects pipeline and when you’re on a movie of this size, it’s 100% critical that you get your color right.”
The ColorEdge CG319X and CG279X are equipped with built-in calibration sensors which ensured every shot that was being worked on was consistent every step of the process. “I’ve been using EIZO professionally for the last 3.5 years and I’ve become a huge fan of the CG318-4K and now the CG319X. The big issue is color and the fact that I rely on it every day when I come to work,” comments Eric Barba, VFX Supervisor.
The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3145 HDR color grading monitor was used in the review suites to replicate DCI-P3, which is the color space used in theaters. This ensured the team could reliably anticipate what audiences would see in the theater and adjust every detail to create the perfect output.
Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller adds, “These monitors are fantastic, and the color fidelity is amazing. [EIZO] has made everyone’s work here so much easier and we hope [they] are proud of the work that [their] monitors enable.”
