Pixel

Pixel is a combined word formed by pix (for "pictures") and el (for "element"). It is the counting unit by which digital imaging is measured as a single pixel represents the smallest constituent piece of information forming a digital image. Pixel counts are expressed either as a single number, as in a "five-megapixel" or five million pixels, or as a pair of numbers, as in a "1920 by 1080 display", which can show 1920 pixels from side-to-side and 1080 from top-to-bottom.
